Contents

Astronomical

Astronomers call certain sightings of celestial bodies apparitions.

Supernatural

An apparition is an appearance to a human of a ghost, phantom, or other supernatural being such as God or Satan, or an appearance of a living person not physically present by ostensibly supernatural means. In colloquial speech, the word apparition often refers simply to a ghost.

Catholic view

In Christianity, mostly Catholicism, a number of apparitions of the Virgin Mary are celebrated.

Another loose term for apparition is vision or locution. In a vision the visionary or seer sees and hears the supernatural being; in a locution the concerned person only hears the voice but does not see any supernatural being. The vision or locution seems to be interfaced directly to the sensory system of the seer and no one else can perceive the vision or locution. There have been thousands of apparitions since man set foot on the earth with at least 2800 documented apparitions including those in the bible. These apparitions have increased exponentially in the past 20 years (1985+), with almost every country in the world boasting of a visionary or seer. The most famous of all apparitions is Our Lady of Fatima. As of 1st Jan 2005 there are some 52+ running apparitions around the world warning of severe impending doom.
