Arman

Arman (November 17, 1928, Nice - ), born Armand Pierre Fernandez, is a French painter and sculptor. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs at Nice - where he met Yves Klein - then at the École du Louvre. He is a member of the group "Nouveaux Réalistes".

Works

  • In 1959, he started on his project of collecting objects, and exhibited household waste and the contents of dustbins.
  • In 1961, he started the series known as Colères (anger): the destruction of objects (violing, pianos counter-basses etc.) cleverly reattached on pedestals or concrete bases.
  • His bronze sculptures is part of a similar theme: using icons of western art (Venus de Milo, Hercule Farnèse , etc), he takes them apart to then reattach them in a random order.
