Betty Wright (born December 21, 1953) is a soul and R&B singer born in Miami, Florida.

Biography

Betty Wright started in the music business with her family's gospel group, Echoes of Joy . She appeared on various recordings while a teen as a back up vocalist. She would eventually come out with her own album, "My First time Around". She scored a top 40 hit with "Girls Can't Do What the Guys Do" in 1968.

Her next hit was 1972's "Clean Up Woman". She won a Grammy in 1974 for "Where is the love?". She continued to issue albums throughout the decade. She had a brief stint as a talk show hostess and also worked as a backup vocalist to a wide variety of artists. 2001 saw Wright release "Fit for a King" as well as a best of album.
