Borough High Street is the last section of the road from Dover to London as it approaches London Bridge. It divides historic Southwark in two. It was originally a Roman road and in the mediæval period was the site of famous Inns such as the Tabard, the George and the White Hart. St Thomas Hospital lay to the East and St Mary Overie Monastery to the West.
