The Augusta, Tallahassee and Gulf Railroad Company, originally the Thomasville, Tallahassee and Gulf Railroad Company, only built a short portion of its line. It was then sold to the Carrabelle, Tallahassee and Georgia Railroad Company.

The Carrabelle, Tallahassee and Georgia Railroad Company was incorporated under the general incorporation laws of Florida

• for the purpose of completing the said railroad from Carrabelle, in the county of Franklin, on the Gulf of Mexico, to the city of Tallahassee, thence to some point on the northern boundary of this State, in the direction of Thomasville, in the State of Georgia.

Florida state law chapter 4264, approved May 22, 1893, granted land to the company that had formerly been granted to the Thomasville, Tallahassee and Gulf Railroad Company (on February 7, 1883). To obtain the land grants, the railroad would have to be finished between Tallahassee and Thomasville by January 1, 1895.
