Charles Somerset, Marquess of Worcester

Charles Somerset (ca. December 1660 - July 13, 1698), son to Henry Somerset, 1st Duke of Beaufort and Mary Capel , gained the courtesy title of Marquess of Worcester in 1682. Perhaps he held the courtesy titles of Earl of Glamorgan and Viscount Grosmont before, but that is not sure.

On June 6, 1682, he married Rebecca Child , who was the daughter of Sir Josiah Child, Baronet Child of Wanstead, co. Essex and sister of Richard Child, Earl Tilney of Castlemaine . They had one son and one daughter:

  1. Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort, his and his father's heir and successor; and
  2. Lady Henrietta Somerset, who was born on August 27, 1690, died on August 9, 1726 and was married to Charles Fitzroy, 2nd Duke of Grafton on April 30, 1713, with whom she had four sons and three daughters.

Because Charles died before his father's, the Duke's of Beaufort death, on the duke's death the dukedom passed to Charles's son Henry.
