Cosmic Sounds (1967) was the first and only album recorded by The Zodiac. The group was formed primarily for the album by Jac Holzman, head of Elektra Records. Many of the members of the "group" are unknown, including the guitarists. Those that are were top session legends, including famed "Drummer Man" Hal Blaine. Each song deals with a differerent sign of the zodiac. The music was written by Mort Garson, the musician who later composed the National Geographic theme. The album has gained a cult of admirers over the years. Its big claim to fame is that it is the first album to feature the Moog synthesizer although many, including those who worked on it, claim it was preceded by the even more obscure Stones.
