Eastern University

Eastern University is a private, and Christian university in Pennsylvania. It is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches. It presents itself as Christian in ints orentation, but has been considered Judeo-Christian by some. Enrollment consists largely of Evangelical Protestants However, there are also a number of Roman Catholics, Messianic Jews, Eastern Orthodox and non-religious students enrolled.

It was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the 1930s as a department of Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1952 it became a separate institution, moved to its present-day St. Davids, Pennsylvania location and named Eastern Baptist College. In 1972 it was renamed Eastern College to encourage enrollment by members of other denominations. In 2001 the Pennsylvania Department of Education granted the institution university status and was renamed Eastern University.

Despite the similarity in name, it is not affiliated with Universidad del Este in Puerto Rico

It has four major campuses:

  • Main Campus commonly known as the School of the Arts and Sciences
  • Campolo School for Social Change
  • School of International Leadership and Development
  • School of Professional Studies
