Put simply, Easy Access consists of designing building and public transport so that they are easily accessible by people using wheelchairs, prams or carrying luggage, or by people who are frail. This means providing lifts or gently sloping ramps in parallel with non-easy-accessible stairs. Toilets with enough space to manouvre a wheelchair and with tap at reachable heights are also required.

While the provision of Easy Access can be painfully difficult and expensive to provide as a retro-fit or afterthough, designing EA facilities at the time of original construction can be quite simple.
