The Gateway of India is a monument located in Mumbai, India. Located on the waterfront in South Mumbai, the Gateway is a monumental arch 26 meters high, built from yellow sandstone, in a 16th century Gujarati architectural style. It was constructed between 1915 to 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V of England and Queen Mary to the city in 1911. After independence, the last of the British departed from the Gateway of India. The Taj Hotel adjacent to it is also a major landmark. The site is a popular tourist destination.

The parking lot near the monument was the site of a terrorist bomb attack on August 25, 2003 which killed several people.
