Running the Gauntlet refers to a punishment or torture in which people armed with sticks or other weapons arrange themselves in two lines facing each other and beat the subject, who is forced to run between them.
In the context of railroad operations, the term gantlet track refers to a section of two tracks that overlap to allow them to pass a narrow bridge or tunnel in little more than the space of one track. (This could be considered a form of Time-division multiplexing.) See gantlet track section under Railroad switch.
