Greenery day (みどりの日) is one of the holidays for Japanese citizens. It is April 29th. Until 1989, it was the birthday of the Showa Emperor. But, in 1989, with the ascension of the current Emperor, the name "Birthday of the Emperor" was changed to Greenery Day. It is a day to commune with nature, and at the same time, be thankful for blessings, and to foster abundant spirit.

Greenery Day will soon have its name changed to Showa Day in accordance to the revising of a law expected to be passed in the short future. The Showa Emperor reigned for 64 years. In 1947, he became a symbol of Japan by the constitution of Japan.

Controvertial in nature, this decision is likely to be marked with recentments from Japan's Asian neighbours who still harbour hostile feelings towards the Country for Her 'Expansionist' policies of the Second World War aknowledged Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda but the decision ultimately rests with the Parliament.
