Hardy Murfree (1743(?) - 1809) founded the town of Murfreesboro, North Carolina, where he lived for most of his adult life. His first name is sometimes spelled Hardee.
He was a Colonel in the American Revolutionary War, noted for leading a successful attack against British forces at Stony Point, New York .
He migrated to Tennessee in 1805, living on land granted him after the American Revolution, and remained there until his death in 1809. The town of Murfreesboro, Tennessee is named in his honor.
