Idaho Legislature

The Idaho Legislature is the lawmaking body of the State of Idaho. It consists of the Idaho Senate and the Idaho House of Representatives. The Idaho Senate contains 35 Senators, who are elected from 35 districts. The Idaho House of Representatives consists of 70 Representatives, who are elected from the same 35 districts, with 2 being elected from each one. As of 2000, each legislative district in the state of Idaho had approximately 37,000 residents.

Elected Officials

The 57th Idaho Senate - which met from 2002-2003 - contained 28 Republican Senators and 7 Democratic Senators. The 57th Idaho House of Representatives contained 54 Republican Representatives and 16 Democratic Representatives.

In January of 2005, the 58th Idaho Legislature is set to convene. If current provisional election results hold true, then the 58th Idaho Senate shall contain 28 Republican Senators and 7 Democratic Senators. The 58th Idaho House of Representatives shall contain 57 Republican Representatives and 13 Democratic Representatives.

Location and Time of Operation

The Idaho State Legislature convenes at the Idaho State Capitol in downtown Boise. The Legislature will resume business on January 10th, 2005, and usually remains in operation until mid-March, altough the 2003 session lasted until May. The Idaho Capitol is open to the public during afternoon hours on most weekdays.
