The Jeffries Projects were a public housing project located in Detroit, Michigan. Made up of 13 14-story buildings, they were built in 1953 with an extension of 5 more identical buildings in 1955. At first, the complex was a marvel. Everybody wanted to get in. But by the late 1960's, the buildings became a haedquarters for drug dealers and crime. The buildings fell into severe disrepair, with the heaters braking down in several buildings in February, 1975, leaving tennants with no heat for 5 days. One famous drug dealer, "Young Boys Inc.", came from the Jeffries. Eventually the buildings decayed to such an extent that they were forced to close in 1992 after 454 repair requests were sent by tenants in January. the buildings sat abandoned for 9 years, worse than ever before with smashed and boarded up windows and graffiti. Most of the towers were imploded in April 2001, while 4 were renovated and are still occupied.
