John I of Saxony

Johann I, King of Saxony (12 December 1801-29 October 1873) son of Maximilian, Duke of Saxony (1759-1838) and Caroline of Bourbon-Parma (1770-1804).

He was born at Dresden.

On 21 November 1822 at Dresden, he married Amelia of Bavaria (1801-1877), daughter of Maximilian I Joseph, King of Bavaria (1756-1825) and his wife Karoline Frederike Wilhelmine of Baden (1776-1841).

He died at Pillnitz and was succeeded as King of Saxony by his son Albrecht I.
