John Patrick Shanley (1950-) is a playwright from the Bronx. He is famous for insisting in his contract that not a single word can be changed in the screenplays that he writes.
For his script for the 1987 film, Moonstruck, Shanley won the Academy Award for Writing Original Screenplay and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
In 2005, John Patrick Shanley's Off-Broadway play, Doubt, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
