Maria Isert

Maria Isert was a camp guard at two concentration camps during the last year of World War II.

She was born on May 11, 1906 in Essen, Germany. In 1944, she submitted an application to the camp office in Essen and they accepted her into the SS ranks. Eventually, she served as an Aufseherin in Buchenwald, and in its subcamp at Essen. In April 1945 she walked out of the subcamp with the arrival of the US Army and was never tried for war crimes.
