Marie Rudisill

Marie Rudisill is the 93-year-old woman who appears in the Ask the Fruitcake Lady segements on the Tonight Show. She was an aunt to novelist Truman Capote. Rudisill is the author of eight books, including a book titled "Fruitcake, Memories of Truman Capote & Sook".

Rudisill was born in Alabama. She married James Rudisill in 1939. The couple had a son, and Rudisill currently has three grandchildren. Rudisill helped to raise Capote, who lived with her during his childhood.

Rudisill's "Fruitcake, Memories of Truman Capote & Sook" book led to her being invited to be a guest on the Tonight Show in December of 2000. During her first visit, she showed Jay Leno and Mel Gibson how to make fruitcakes. This led to her being named the Fruitcake Lady. In 2002, the Ask the Fruitcake Lady segments became a regular part of the Tonight Show. In these segments, viewers pose prerecorded questions to Rudisill, and her often unpredictable responses are shown.
