Marino Torlonia, 4th Prince di Civitella-Cessi

Prince Don Marino Torlonia (29 July 1861 - 5 March 1933), the former 4th Prince di Civitella-Cessi, duke of Poli and Guadagnolo. He was born in Poli, Italy , the sixth son of Prince Don Giulio Torlonia, 2nd Duke di Poli e di Guadagolo and his wife, the princess Donna Teresa Chigi della Rovere-Albani. His paternal grand mother was Princess Donna Anna Sforza-Cesarini, a descendant of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan and patron of Leonardo da Vinci and his maternal grand mother was princess Donna Leopoldina Doria-Pamphilli-Landi the grand daughter of Leopoldina di Savoia a princess of the royal family of Sardinia, the later Royal Family of Italy. Several times descendent of many Popes of the Vatican, he inherited from his family the administration of the Banca Torlonia, the most important bank in administrate the finances of the Vatican among others big investments, so he was one of the richest noblemen in Italy around the beginning of the twentieth century, also he was the one in introduce the first motor car in Rome.

He married the 15 August in 1907 to Mary Elsie Moore (New York 22 October 1889-Rome 21 December 1941), a beautiful American socialite who was studying in Rome, without any blue blood, but member of one of the ancient-American-patrician families of the May Flower . She was daughter of the American bussinesman Charles Arthur Moore , a rich shipping broker and hardware manufacturer in Connecticut, and of Mary Kate Campbell, her brothers were Eugene Maxwell Moore, the husband of Margaret Graham, the survivor of the Ill-Fated Titanic and Ann Moore, who married Mr. William Close (grand mother of the actress Glenn Close).

They had four children:

Princess Donna Olimpia Torlonia di Civitella-Cessi Don Alessandro Torlonia, 5th prince di Civitella-Cessi, who married the Infanta Beatriz de Borbón-Battenberg, the daugther of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. Princess Donna Cristina Torlonia di Civitella-Cessi. Princess Donna Marina Torlonia di Civitella-Cessi, who married to Americans: firstly Eduard Slater and secondly Francis Xavier Shields (grand mother of the actress Brooke Shields).
