Nanabush, in Ojibwe mythology, was a magician, a teacher, and a hunter.
He figures prominently in Ojibwe storytelling, including the story of the world's creation, and is the Ojibwe trickster figure and culture hero. (These two archetypes are often combined into a single figure in First Nations mythologies.)
Nanabush was sent to Earth by Gitchi Manitou to teach the Ojibwe. He was the son of a human mother and a spirit father. One of his first tasks on Earth was to name the plants and animals.
