Runaway

Runaway is a 2004 collection of short stories by Alice Munro. It won the 2004 Giller Prize.

There are eight short stories in the book. Three of the stories ("Chance", "Soon", and "Silence") are about a single character, named "Julie Henderson".

  • "Runaway" — a woman is trapped in a bad marriage
  • "Chance" — Julie takes a train trip which leads to an affair
  • "Soon" — Julie visits her parents with her child Penelope
  • "Silence" — Julie visits her grown estranged daughter Penelope
  • "Passion"
  • "Trespasses"
  • "Tricks" — Robin, a lonely girl, lives life alone due to bad luck and misinterpretation
  • "Powers" — Tessa, a psychic girl, spends 50 years in vaudville
