Scalloped Hammerhead

This member of the hammer head family was originally called Zygaena lewini, but was later renamed to it's current name, Sphyrna lewini. The greek word 'Sphyrna' translates into 'Hammer' in english, refering to the shape of this sharks head. This shark can also be refered to as: Scalloped Hammerhead, Bronze Hammerhead, Kidney-headed or Southern Hammerhead. It lives mainly in off coast tropical areas, such as east and west Africa.
