South Brooklyn

South Brooklyn is a hybrid neighborhood encompassing areas of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Red Hook, Gowanus, Park Slope, and Boerum Hill. It is named for its location, geographically south of the original Dutch settlement of Breuckelen . It is not to be confused with the actual southern region of Brooklyn, which spans the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge and Coney Island, for example.
