Southampton College

The Southampton College of Long Island University is a small liberal arts college located in Southampton, New York, founded in 1963. The close-knit campus is noted for its programs in English/Writing, Art Education, and particularly Marine Biology.

The campus hosts the administrative headquarters of Friends World Program, an international college of global studies.

In June, 2004, the university announced that, due to continuing multi-million deficits and low enrollment, the university would close the undergraduate programs at the campus as of June, 2005, shifting students and faculty to the C.W. Post campus of LIU. Some programs may remain at the campus, but this is very much uncertain presently. The university has talked of selling the campus to developers, though many local residents have been more favorable to plans that would see the campus taken over by the SUNY system.
