Talpinae

See species list The Talpinae are one of three subfamilies of the mole family Talpidae, the others being the Desmans or Desmaninae and the Shrew moles or Uropsilinae.

These mammals in the order Insectivora mainly live under ground. This subfamily includes all moles found in North America; other species in this group are found in Europe and Asia. Most species have front paws specialized for tunneling which are clawed and face outwards from the body. They mainly eat insects and other small invertebrates.
