Tanum is a Municipality in Västra Götaland County, in western Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 908.7 km². Of the total population of 12105, 6084 are male, and 6021 are female. The population density of the community is 13 inhabitants per km². The municipal seat is located in Tanumshede.

The rock carvings at Tanum has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
