Thailand (THA) had its debut at the Summer Olympic Games in 1952 in Helsinki, Finland.
They won their first medal in the 1976 Montreal Games for boxing (Payao Pooltarat , light-flyweight , bronze). Their first gold medal also came from boxing (Somluck Kamsing , featherweight, 1996).
Thailand's most successful games to date was the 2004 Games in Athens, where they won 8 medals, including their first medal in taekwondo from Yaowapa Boorapolchai (bronze), and the first gold by a Thai woman (Udomporn Polsak, weightlifting).
