University of Arkansas - Fort Smith is the fifth largest university in Arkansas, with a fall 2004 credit enrollment of 6,631. The university has a $51 million budget, and is one of the largest suppliers of allied health care workers and technical workforce in the state.

Established as Fort Smith Junior College in 1928, it later changed its name to Westark Community College (February 1972), then Westark College (February 1998), and finally UA Fort Smith (January 2002).
