Victoria and Albert

Victoria and Albert is the style by which Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and her Prince Consort, Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha are recorded and memorialised.

Many things were named in honour of the couple using this styling of their names. These include:

Three Royal Yachts:

  • Victoria and Albert , a twin paddle steamer launched in 1842;
  • Victoria and Albert II , a 360' vessel 1855, used regularly for 45 years;
  • the 1899 vessel, Victoria and Albert III that was launched in 1899 but was not ready for service until 1901. Queen Victoria had lobbied Parliament for many years for a more modern yacht and won this expenditure after pointing out that both the Russian Tsar and the German Kaiser both had larger yachts than Great Britain. Unfortunately she died seven months before the launch, Victoria and Albert III served three sovereigns but was withdrawn after the Coronation Review of the Fleet in 1937.
