Wanganui Collegiate School

The Wanganui Collegiate School is a coeducational, mixed day and boarding secondary school in Wanganui, New Zealand.

It was founded by a land grant of about 1 square kilometre in 1852 by the Governor of New Zealand, Sir Geoerge Grey to the Bishop of New Zealand, George Augustus Selwyn for the purpose of establishing a school. It was originally a boys-only school, but in the late 1980s the school started to admit girls in the sixth-form and then in 1990 went fully co-educational.

It is now situated on a 250,000 m² estate with about 500 pupils.

The Collegiate School was also host to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex during his 'gap' year, spending two terms in 1982 as a junior master.

The Quadrangular Rugby Football Tournament occurs annually between the Collegiate School, Christ's College, Wellington College and Nelson College . The Quadrangular is reputed to be one of the oldest organised rugby tournaments in the world.
