Xanga is a Web site that provides users with weblogs or "blogs". It is operated by Xanga.com, Inc. and is based in New York City.
Users of Xanga are referred to as "Xangans".
Xanga offers a free service and a pay service called Xanga Premium. Members with a Xanga Premium account have access to several additional features—namely spellcheck, image uploading, an enhanced WYSIWYG editor, and banner-less pages.
Xanga is mostly used as a personal diary site, whereas other weblog publishers are frequently used as content management systems and integrated into independent Web pages. Xanga is commonly considered as inextensible compared with other common blog sites.
Xanga is separated from other blogging sites by its focus on community. Highly integrated subscription, blogging, and user location (called Xanga Metros) features allow a user to easily track his or her favorite Xanga sites or find new ones.
Xanga also makes heavy use of eProps, a system of ratings given by Xangans at the comment page. A commentator can assign the post being commented on 0, 1, or 2 eProps, depending on the quality of the post. The eProps are then posted along with his comment.
Also unique to Xanga among blogging sites is the fact that the percent of Xangans of Asian heritage is much higher than other sites.[1]
