You're A Star is a talent contest shown weekly on RTÉ One over the winter months of each year. Presented by Ray D'Arcy, it finds Ireland's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.
First shown in 2002-2003, it chose the entrant for the 2003 contest, Micky-Joe Harte , who came 11th. The next winner, Chris Doran, did less well in 2004, receiving points only from the United Kingdom, and ensuring that Ireland must pre-qualify for the 2005 contest.
2005
The format of the show was changed for the 2005 season, to try to ensure that Ireland chose an act with more appeal across Europe. The show was no longer limited to solo singer-performers; entire bands could now enter. There were 3 semifinalists, the Henry Girls, Jade and Donna & Joseph McCaul. On March 6 2005 the McCauls topped the poll in the final, defeating the Kilmuckridge band, Jade. In Eurovision Song Contest 2005, the brother-and-sister act from Athlone will sing Love? (pronounced "love question mark"), written by Karl Broderick . The song shows Irish culture in a modern way, including an interlude of Irish dancing.
